CONDITIONS OF THE EDIFICATIONS IN THE MAIQUETIA`S COMMUNITY

The Maiquetía`s community had an historical event about the floods in Vargas in 1999, which is the reason that we are studying the place, to obtain an important information to improve the edifications. there was a need to study this place because the materials used in the constructions could be dangerous for the population, organized community or the Government if any event like a flood or a earthquake happen.

This project has a lot of points to study, but I only will mention one and it consists of the buildings categorization by their vulnerability (high, medium and low) and it is done studying the conditions of each edification that exist in the Maiquetía`s community. The final result is the type of threat (high, medium and low) in these buildings.

CONDITIONS AND MATERIALS OF THE BUILDINGS

The building conditions of the Maiquetia`s community could be described in three types: Good, regular and bad. Each one of the qualifications includes some characteristics in relation to their status and hardness.
  • First, the edifications in a bad condition are those with walls made of BRICK and blocks of Brick without gaskets, roof of zinc or aluminum sheets. Also this edifications have visible damages, cracks and irreparable damages. These structures do not have a lot of good materials for their constructions because the persons that live there do not have enough resources for that, so they have to build their homes with whatever they have. It is important to mention that these edifications do not have any plan inside the community.

  • On the other hand, there are the structures in good conditions made of with stucco, steel beams, slabs and tile roofs. They don't have visible damages and just a waste of external paint of the house or edification . The most common materials used in this category are glass basically in the windows and beams of concrete and steel to support the structure. Also wood is used in detalis or inside the house like doors, tables, desk and chairs.

  • Finally, the regular condition combines the good characteristics with the bad characteristics, for example, the ground floor is in a good condition, but the second floor does not, it has zinc, walls without finish and bad characteristics like it doesn't have glass in the windows or ceramic on the floor.

TABLE OF THE EDIFICATION`S CONDITION OF MAIQUETÍA COMMUNITY

CONDITION
HECTARES
GOOD
7,1745
BAD
18,696
REGULAR
5,766

We could say, thanks to the results of the table and the information gathered, that exist more edifications in a bad condition so, there are more informal buildings without any planification, with bad materials for the structure and resistance and that corresponds to 45,397% of the edifications which it's found in the neighborhoods, specially those places far away the avenues. In the Maiquetia`s community is a high vulnerability for the conditions that the edifications have. Also we could say that exist an important progress for the people that lives in Maiquetia after the flood in vargas on 1999, the persons know a place to go if the event happen again and actually the persons, before when the presipitation are stronger, evacuees.
